I am a qualified psychodynamic counsellor.
What is the difference between psychodynamic and other counselling? A psychodynamic approach helps you find the root causes of the disconnect in your life. I work with how your past experiences and relationships have shaped your internal world. I also help you explore your unconscious mind's affect on negative thought patterns - your thoughts unknown. Discovering how these deep emotions impact your life can be transformative.
There is no judgement and the counselling room is a safe space to unpack whatever is troubling you. I ask that you commit to weekly sessions until our work is established. I work on an open-ended basis to allow us time to safely explore your reasons for coming to counselling.

It can be very daunting to decide that you need help. Sometimes it can be a traumatic event that propels you to seek help like a significant life event or loss. But there can also be moments in life when something is not right and that you feel disconnected to those around you. These feelings may leave you anxious or depressed. This is when it can help to talk to someone in a therapeutic and safe environment, to discover what has happened in your internal world.
I charge £55 per session, payable in advance each week by BACS transfer.
The psychodynamic model is open-ended. This means you can attend sessions for as long as our work together is helpful to you. If you would prefer to work for a shorter period, or for a particular issue, this can be discussed at our first session.
No. I work on a self-referral basis but am happy to accept GP referrals if appropriate.
It is understandable to be nervous. In our first session, there will be a short form to fill in and a contract to sign. I will send the contract to you in advance of our first session. We will also agree the time and day that we will meet each week. After this, I can answer any questions you may have and we can talk about what has brought you to counselling. At the end of the first session, there is no obligation to continue.
